History

Oakland was originally inhabited by the Costanoan Indians. In the early 1770s, the Spaniards explored what is now California, making them the first white men to visit the area. In 1820, Spanish soldier Luis Maria Peralta made a request for and was granted land in close proximity to what is currently known as the East Bay Area. In 1848, gold mining flourished. In 1851, Horace W. Carpentier named it Oakland for the oak trees on the grassy plain and incorporated it as a city in 1854. It went on and became one of the busiest ports in the world for container ships.

The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, was washing his car in his driveway when two men approached and robbed him, according to CBS San Francisco. Jack London Square in Oakland CA
